      This medicine calms excessive nerve excitement in the brain and suppresses epileptic seizures.
      It is usually used in the treatment of partial seizures in combination with other antiepileptic drugs.

  • Effect/Efficacy
      This medicine calms excessive nerve excitement in the brain and suppresses epileptic seizures.
      It is usually used in the treatment of partial seizures in combination with other antiepileptic drugs.
  • Usage/Dosage
      For adults: In general, start with taking 2 tablets (50 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once to twice daily and continue to take for more than a week. Then the dose will be increased gradually to take 4 to 8 tablets (100 to 200 mg) twice daily as a maintenance dose. The dosage may be adjusted according to the symptoms, however, the maximum daily dose is limited to 24 tablets (600 mg).
      For children: In general, for children aged 2 years and older, start with taking 1mg of the active ingredient per kilogram of the body weight daily and continue to take for more than two weeks. Then the dose is increased to 2mg per kilogram of the body weight daily and will be continued for more than two weeks. Then the daily dose will be increased by increments of 2 mg per kilogram of the body weight or less to take 6 mg per kilogram of the body weight as a maintenance dose. The dosage may be adjusted according to the symptoms, however, the maximum daily dose should not exceeded 9 mg per kilogram of the body weight or 24 tablets (600 mg), whichever is less. In any case, the medicine is taken daily in 2 divided doses.
      For both of adults and children, strictly follow the instructions.
      The medicine is used in combination with other antiepileptic drugs.
      If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
      If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
      Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
  • Cautions
      If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
      If you have: glaucoma, renal disorder, hepatic disorder or depression.
      If you are prone to calculi.
      If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
      If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

      The medicine may cause lightheadedness and sleepiness. Avoid operating dangerous machinery or driving a car.
      If you are prone to calculi, drink an adequate amount of water.
      The medicine may decrease sweating and increase body temperature especially during summer. Avoid staying at a high temperature and drink water beforehand to relieve symptoms.
      The medicine may cause decreased body weight. If you noticed any signs, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
      Avoid taking foods containing Hypericum perforatum (St. John's wort) because they may decrease blood concentration of this medicine.

      Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
      Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
  • Contraindication
      The most commonly reported adverse reactions include somnolence, decreased body weight, dizziness, anorexia and bulimia syndrome in adult, and somnolence, hypohidrosis, decreased appetite, dyshidrosis, decreased body weight in children. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
      The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
      sudden visual acuity reduced, eye pain, nausea [secondary angle-closure glaucoma and acute myopia associated with secondary angle-closure glaucoma]
      lumbar pain, back pain, flank pain, abdominal pain, hematuria [nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis]
      overbreathing, conscious disorder, palpitation [metabolic acidosis]
      decreased sweating, fever, feeling hot [hypohidrosis and high fever associated with hypohidrosis]
      The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.
