Effect/Efficacy
This medicine is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis to exert an antibacterial effect, with potent antibacterial activity especially against Escherichia coli and Shigella which cause intestinal infection.
It is usually used to treat infectious enteritis.
Usage/Dosage
For adults: In general, take 2,000 to 4,000 mg (titer) of kanamycin daily, in 4 divided doses.
For children: In general, take 50 to 100 mg (titer) of kanamycin per kilogram of the body weight daily, in 4 divided doses.
The dosage may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms. This preparation contains 250 mg (titer) of kanamycin in a capsule. Strictly follow the instructions.
If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If there is less than 3 hours to the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
Cautions
Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist
If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
If you have nephropathy, deafness, or ulcer in the bowel.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Contraindication
The most commonly reported adverse reactions include hypersensitivity symptom (e.g., rash) and deafness and nephropathy (decrease of urine output, swelling and general malaise) with long-term use. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
