  • Description
      This medicine prevents production of cholesterol in the liver, and thus lowers the cholesterol levels in the blood.
      It is usually used for the treatment of hypercholesterolaemia or familial hypercholesterolaemia.
  • Feature
      slightly yellow tablet, diameter: 7.0mm, thickness: 3.3mm
  • Effect/Efficacy
      This medicine prevents production of cholesterol in the liver, and thus lowers the cholesterol levels in the blood.
      It is usually used for the treatment of hypercholesterolaemia or familial hypercholesterolaemia.
  • Usage/Dosage
      For hypercholesterolaemia: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (10mg of atorvastatin) at a time, once daily. The dosage may be adjusted according to the patient's age and symptoms. For severe patients, the dosage may be increased up to a maximum dose of 4 tablets (20 mg) per day.
      For familial hypercholesterolaemia: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (10mg of atorvastatin) at a time, once daily. The dosage may be adjusted according to the patient's age and symptoms. For severe patients, the dosage may be increased up to a maximum dose of 8 tablets (40mg) per day.
      In either case, strictly follow the instructions of your doctor/pharmacist.
      This medicine is orally disintegrating tablet. Take this medicine in either of the following ways:
      (1) Take this medicine with water or warm water as you do an ordinary tablet.
      (2) Moisten the tablet with saliva on your tongue and crush it lightly with your tongue, then swallow it with saliva. However, never take the tablet without water when you are in a lying position.
      If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible before bedtime. You should never take two doses at one time.
      If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
      Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
  • Cautions
      If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
      If you have liver or renal disorder.
      If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
      If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
      Strictly follow the instructions on dietary/exercise therapy.
      Intake of grapefruit juice may enhance the effect of this medicine. Refrain from taking the medicine together with grapefruit juice.
      Keep out of the reach of infants and children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity.
      Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
  • Contraindication
      The most commonly reported adverse reactions include stomach discomfort, itching, numbness of the fingers, loss of sleep, diarrhoea, heartburn, constipation, headache and general malaise. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
      The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
      muscle pain, feeling of weakness, reddish brown urine [rhabdomyolysis, myopathy]
      queasiness/vomiting, general malaise, yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes [hepatitis fulminant, hepatitis, hepatic function disorder, jaundice]
      pharynx pain/headache/heaviness of the head, general malaise, bleeding of nose/gums or under the skin [agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, thrombocytopenia]
      fever, loss of appetite, red rash [oculomucocutaneous syndrome, toxic epidermal necrosis, erythema multiforme]
      dry mouth, excessive drinking/urination, getting tired easily [hyperglycaemia, diabetes mellitus]
      The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.
