  • Description
      This medicine inhibits the enzyme (DPP-4) which catalyzes decomposition of incretin, a hormone acting to maintain constant blood glucose level.
      It stimulates insulin secretion when blood glucose level is elevated and suppresses glucagon secretion to improve blood glucose control.
      It is usually used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus.

  • Effect/Efficacy

      It stimulates insulin secretion when blood glucose level is elevated and suppresses glucagon secretion to improve blood glucose control.
      It is usually used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • Usage/Dosage
      In general, for adults, take 4 tablets (25 mg of alogliptin) at a time, once a day. The dosage may be decreased according to degree of existing renal function in patients with moderate or severer renal dysfunction. Strictly follow the instructions.
      If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
      If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
      Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
  • Cautions
      If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
      If you have severe ketosis, diabetic coma or precoma, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus or severe infection; are in a pre- or post-operative state; have a serious injury, renal disorder, heart failure, pituitary abnormality, adrenal disorder or inadequate food intake; or are debilitated, doing strenuous physical exercises or a heavy drinker; have undergone a laparotomy or experienced bowel obstruction.
      If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
      If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
      Strictly follow the instructions on dietary/exercise therapy.
      This medicine may cause hypoglycemia. Pay close attention when working at heights or operating dangerous machinery such as driving a car. Make sure to tell your family and persons around you that you are taking this medicine.
      When hypoglycemia symptoms occur, take an adequate amount of sugar (e.g., sugar, glucose, soft drinks). If you are taking this medicine concomitantly with an α-glucosidase inhibitor (medicines which delay absorption of sugar such as voglibose and acarbose), ingest glucose in case of any hypoglycemic symptoms.
      Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
      Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
  • Contraindication
      The most commonly reported adverse reactions include rash, itching, hives, enlarged feeling of abdomen, abdominal pain, gastroenteritis, constipation, headache, dizziness, numbness of limbs, malaise, nasopharyngitis, edema, palpitation, arthralgia and muscle pain. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
      The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
      cold sweat, a sense of hunger, shivering of limbs [hypoglycemia]
      persistent severe abdominal pain, vomiting [acute pancreatitis]
      loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin and the white of eyes [liver dysfunction/jaundice]
      fever, general malaise, rash on skin/in eyes/in mouth, red rash [muco-cutaneo-ocular syndrome, erythema multiform]
      lassitude, muscle pain, brown urine [rhabdomyolysis]
      constipation, abdominal distension, persistent abdominal pain, vomiting [intestinal obstruction]
      fever, cough, respiratory distress [interstitial pneumonia]
      blister, erosion, red rash [pemphigoid]
      The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.
