This medicine turns into active form by being degraded by bacteria in the large intestine. It enhances bowl peristalsis and inhibits water absorption to show cathartic action.
It is usually used for elimination of intestinal contents in preparation for a colon examination (X-ray examination or endoscopy).

Usage/Dosage

In general, for adults, take 20 mL (150 mg of the active ingredient), 10 to 15 hours before estimated time for the examination. The dosage may be adjusted according to your age and symptoms. Strictly follow the instructions.
Before taking the medicine, make sure (remember) that you had normal defecation (the day before or on the day), and in case of no defecation, consult with your doctor or pharmacist. In some cases, you may experience side effects which are difficult to take a measure. Therefore, avoid taking the medicine when you are alone at home. If you have difficulty in following above, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Dissolve the medicine into a glass of water and drink it. Take water as much as possible after taking the medicine.
Do not apply this medicine to your eyes. If the medicine accidentally gets into the eye, wash the eye with running water well immediately. If you notice any abnormality, visit your doctor or ophthalmologist.
If you miss a dose, for preparation for a colon examination, follow the instructions of your doctor. You should never take two doses at one time.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Cautions

If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
If you are suspected of having acute abdomen (with abdominal pain).
If you are a patient with intestinal obstruction or suspected of having it.
If you are a patient with constipation.
If you may take this medicine when you are alone.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
Discard the remainder. Do not store them.

Contraindication

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, nausea, hives and rash. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.

sudden abdominal pain, diarrhea, melena [ischemic colitis]
