This medicine promotes sugar utilization in the muscles and suppresses sugar production in the liver in order to reduce sugar in the blood (blood sugar level).
It is usually used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus or to induce ovulation in polycystic ovary syndrome and stimulate ovarian regulation in assisted reproductive therapy for polycystic ovary syndrome in patients with obesity, impaired glucose tolerance, or insulin resistance.

For type 2 diabetes mellitus: In general, for adults, start with 2 tablets (500 mg of the active ingredient) in 2 to 3 divided doses a day, either just before or after meal. The maintenance dose should be decided by judging the effectiveness of the medicine. Standard maintenance dose is 3 to 6 tablets (750 to 1,500 mg) in 2 to 3 divided doses a day. For children 10 years or older, start with 2 tablets (500 mg of the active ingredient) in 2 to 3 divided doses a day, either just before or after meal. The maintenance dose should be decided by judging the effectiveness of the medicine. Standard maintenance dose is 2 to 6 tablets (500 to 1,500 mg) in 2 to 3 divided doses a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to the symptoms. The maximum dose is 9 tablets (2,250 mg) a day for adults, 8 tablets (2,000 mg) a day for children.
For ovulation induction in polycystic ovary syndrome and regulated ovarian stimulation in assisted reproductive therapy for polycystic ovary syndrome: In general, in combination with other ovulation inducing drugs or ovarian stimulating drugs, start with 2 tablets (500 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once a day. If tolerated, the dosage may be increased up to 6 tablets (1,500 mg of the active ingredient) in 2 to 3 divided doses a day. The dosage will be stopped before ovulation or egg collection.
Strictly follow the instructions in any case.
If you miss a dose, take the next dose at the next scheduled time. You should never take two doses at one time.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Fundamentals of diabetes treatment are diet and exercise therapy. Just taking this medicine is not enough. Try to regulate your daily life as instructed.
Please note that dehydration or excessive alcohol intake is likely to increase risk of lactic acidosis.
If you are receiving an iodine contrast agent test, you may have lactic acidosis (headache, become sleepy, decreased consciousness, etc.), so this medicine should be temporarily discontinued before the test. Also, do not take this medicine for 48 hours after the iodine contrast agent test.
You may have palpitation, dizziness, tremor in the limbs, etc. caused by hypoglycemia. Therefore pay close attention when you work at heights, drive a car, or operate dangerous machinery.
Follow your doctor's instructions and take regular blood and urine tests.
If you experience hypoglycemic symptoms (hungry, cold sweat, pale face, easy tiredness, tremor of limbs, convulsions, decreased consciousness, etc.), take foods containing sugar or sugar in general.
Please inform your family about any precautions regarding hypoglycemia.

Contraindication

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include diarrhea, nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain and vomiting. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, malaise, muscle pain[lactic acidosis]
lassitude, hunger, sweating[hypoglycemia]
general malaise, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin and the white of eyes[liver dysfunction, jaundice]
pain/stiffness/numbness in the muscles of the limbs[rhabdomyolysis]
