Description

This medicine is metabolized to active vitaminD3 in the liver to promote absorption of calcium from the intestine.
It is usually used for the improvement of various symptoms caused by metabolic abnormality of vitamin D such as chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism and vitamin D-resistant rickets/osteomalacia. It is also used for the treatment of osteoporosis.

Effect/Efficacy

This medicine is metabolized to active vitaminD3 in the liver to promote absorption of calcium from the intestine.
It is usually used for the improvement of various symptoms caused by metabolic abnormality of vitamin D such as chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism and vitamin D-resistant rickets/osteomalacia. It is also used for the treatment of osteoporosis.

Usage/Dosage

The dosage of this medicine is adjusted under fully controlled condition of serum calcium level.
Chronic renal failure, osteoporosis : In general, for adults, take 1 to 2 capsules (0.5 to 1.0μg of the active ingredient) at a time once a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to disease, age and symptoms of the patient.
Hypoparathyroidism and the other disease caused by metabolic abnormality of vitamin D : In general, for adults, take 2 to 8 capsules (1.0 to 4.0μg of the active ingredient) at a time once a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to disease, age, symptoms and disease type of the patient.
For children : In general, for children, in the case of osteoporosis, take 0.01 to 0.03μg/kg of the active ingredient at a time once a day. In the case of the other disease, take 0.05 to 0.1μg/kg of the acitive ingredient at a time once a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to disease and symptomes of the patient.
This preparation contains 0.5μg of the active ingredient in a capsule. Strictly follow the instructions in any case.
If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Cautions

If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Excessive intake of OTC medicines or foods which contain calcium or vitaminD may cause a higher risk of side effects. Consult with your doctor about it before taking these medicines or foods.

Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from light, heat and moisture.
Discard the remainder. Do not store them. Ask the pharmacist or medical facility how to discard unneeded medicine.

Contraindication

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include itch, anorexia, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea and constipation. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
decreased urine output, swelling of extremities and face, general malaise [acute renal failure]
general malaise, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes [liver dysfunction, jaundice]
