Description

This medicine is an antiviral agent. It inhibits the DNA synthesis of virus to suppress the growth of herpes simplex/varicella/herpes zoster virus.
It is usually used to treat herpes simplex, suppression of herpesvirus infection (herpes simplex) caused by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, herpes zoster and suppression of recurrence of genital herpes.

Effect/Efficacy

This medicine is an antiviral agent. It inhibits the DNA synthesis of virus to suppress the growth of herpes simplex/varicella/herpes zoster virus.
It is usually used to treat herpes simplex, suppression of herpesvirus infection (herpes simplex) caused by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, herpes zoster and suppression of recurrence of genital herpes.

Usage/Dosage

[Adults]
Herpes simplex : In general, for adults, take 200 mg of the active ingredient at a time, 5 times a day.
Onset suppression of herpesvirus infection (herpes simplex) caused by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation : In general, for adults, take 200 mg of the active ingredient at a time, 5 times a day from 7 days prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to 35 days after transpantation throughout.
Herpes zoster : In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (800 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 5 times a day.
[Children]
Herpes simplex : In general, for children, take 20 mg of the active ingredient per kg of body weight (mg/kg) at a time, 4 times a day. DO NOT exceed the maximum dosage, 200 mg at a time.
Onset suppression of herpesvirus infection (herpes simplex) caused by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation : In general, for children, take 20 mg/kg of the active ingredient at a time, 4 times a day from 7 days prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to 35 days after transplantation throughout. DO NOT exceed the maximum dosage, 200 mg at a time.
Herpes zoster : In general, for children, take 20 mg/kg of the active ingredient at a time, 4 times a day. DO NOT exceed the maximum dosage, 2 tablets (800 mg) at a time.
Reccurrence suppression of genital herpes : In general, for children, take 20 mg/kg of the active ingredient at a time, 4 times a day. DO NOT exceed the maximum dosage, 200 mg at a time.
The dosage may be adjusted according to disease, age and symptoms of the patient in any case. This preparation contains 400 mg of the active ingredient in a tablet. Strictly follow the instructions.
If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Cautions

If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Please take a larger amount of water than usual. However, if you have been instructed fluid restriction, please consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
This medicine may cause consciousness disorder, etc. Pay close attention to operate in potentially hazardous activities such as driving a car. Especially, patient with renal function disorder may cause consciousness disorder. Avoid operating in potentially hazardous activities, if you are indicated to refrain it.

Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
Discard the remainder. Do not store them.

Contraindication

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include anemia, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, rash, blister, erythema, hives, itch, fixed drug eruption and photosensitivity. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
respiratory distress, angioedema, hives [anaphylactoid shock, anaphylaxis]
high fever, general malaise, hematuria, subcutaneous bleeding in limbs [pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, thrombocytopenic purpura]
decreased urine output, edema of limbs and face, general malaise [acute renal failure]
consciousness disorder (coma), hallucination, convulsion [neuropsychiatric symptom]
high fever, bloodshot eyes, erythema  [toxic epidermal necrolysis, mucocutaneous-ocular syndrome]
