It is usually used to treat herpes simplex, herpes zoster, and as a suppression of onset of herpes simplex virus infection associated with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and recurrence of genital herpes (in children who weigh more than 40 kg only).

Usage/Dosage

[Adults]
Herpes simplex: In general, for adults, take 1/2 tablet (200 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 5 times a day.
Suppression of onset of herpes simplex virus infection (herpes simplex) associated with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: In general, for adults, take 1/2 tablet (200 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 5 times a day from 7 days prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to 35 days after transplantation.
Herpes zoster: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (800 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 5 times a day.
In any case, the dosage may be adjusted according to the disease, age or symptoms. Strictly follow the instructions.
In general, take the medicine 5 times a day (after breakfast, after lunch, at around 4 pm, after dinner and before bedtime).
In general, for children, take the medicine 4 times a day (after breakfast, after lunch, at around 4 pm and after dinner).
If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist
If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
If you have: renal or liver disorder.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Precautions while taking this medicine
Please take a larger amount of water than usual while you are on this medicine. However, if you have been instructed to restrict fluid intake, please consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
This medicine may cause decreased consciousness including sleepiness. Pay close attention when driving a car or operating dangerous machinery. Patients with renal dysfunction are more susceptible to consciousness disorder, so avoid operating dangerous machinery if instructed to do so by your doctor.
Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
Discard the remainder. Do not store them.

Contraindication

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include abdominal pain, diarrhea, anaemia and hypersensitivity (fever, rash, erythema, hives, itch, blister, fixed drug eruption and photosensitivity). If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
respiratory distress, swelling of eyelids/lips/tongue, palpitation [anaphylactic shock, anaphylaxis]
fever, bleeding tendency, general malaise [blood disorder including pancytopenia/agranulocytosis]
decreased urine output, edema, general malaise [acute renal failure]
coma, hallucination, convulsion [neuropsychiatric symptom]
conjunctival hyperemia, erythema with edema on the center, erosions of oral or pubic mucosa [toxic epidermal necrolysis, muco-cutaneo-ocular syndrome]
